FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LOS ANGELES – Today Assemblywoman Laura Friedman (D-Los Angeles) announced her endorsement of Kelly Gonez’s campaign for school board, joining a broad and diverse coalition of local elected leaders supporting Gonez.
“Kelly has the experience our community needs to fight for and strengthen our public schools,” said Assemblywoman Friedman. “As a homegrown community advocate and the only teacher in this race, Kelly knows what it will take to provide all children with the great education and future they deserve.”
“I am honored to have the support of Assemblywoman Friedman,” said Kelly. “As a former mayor and city councilmember, Assemblywoman Friedman is a prominent and progressive leader in the community who knows what it takes to get things done. I look forward to working together on behalf of every child and family in our community.”
Kelly Gonez is running for LAUSD school board in District 6. A resident of Sylmar with her husband Manuel, Kelly teaches 7th grade science at a STEM-focused charter middle school in LAUSD. She formerly served as an education advisor in the Obama Administration where she advocated for students and families from some of the most disadvantaged backgrounds.
