LOS ANGELES – Today International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Local 13 announced they have endorsed Kelly Gonez for school board. This endorsement comes after a strong fundraising quarter and further positions the campaign for a win in March.
“As the only teacher in this race Kelly has the experience and knowledge that is essential to giving our kids the education they deserve,” said Robert “Bobby” Olvera, Jr., President of ILWU Local 13. “We look forward to working with Kelly on a vision that brings the school board’s focus back to the families and students it serves. Kelly will be a strong advocate for our working families and is undoubtedly the most qualified candidate to hit the ground running on day one. ”
“I am honored to have earned the support of ILWU Local 13 and will continue to fight for the rights and safety of the thousands of workers they courageously represent. It is of the utmost importance that the kids of our community are getting the education they deserve,” Kelly said. “I am excited about the momentum we are building and look forward to continue fighting on behalf of our community to improve educational opportunity in the Northeast San Fernando Valley.”
The ILWU Local 13 represents approximately 8,000 women and men who protect workers’ rights, benefits, and equality.
