LOS ANGELES – Today the Sierra Club joined a broad and diverse coalition of community organizations, local leaders, educators, and families by announcing their endorsement of Kelly Gonez’s campaign for school board.
“We are excited to support Kelly’s campaign,” said Sharon Koch, Chair Angeles Chapter, Sierra Club. “As a public school science teacher, Kelly is a champion for environmental education and activism, and we know that as a board member she will continue to promote science, conservation, and sustainability.”
“The Sierra Club is one of the nation’s largest and most influential grassroots environmental organizations, and I'm honored to have their support,” said Kelly. “Every day I teach my students how to be good stewards of the environment and I know firsthand the importance of the Sierra Club’s work. I look forward to partnering to further the cause of environmental justice and conservation and instilling these important values in our LAUSD schools.”
A resident of Sylmar with her husband Manuel, Kelly teaches 7th grade science at a STEM-focused charter middle school in LAUSD. She formerly served as an education advisor in the Obama Administration where she advocated for students and families from some of the most disadvantaged backgrounds.
